Here's the health update:
No malaria - or any other abnormalities that would easily explain my symptoms. However, on consultation with a specialist in infectious diseases I have been deemed "interesting" so I have to go see them next week. And have an echocardiogram the week after. Until then I'm supposed to rest.
The doctors are obsessed with the idea that this is linked to my field season - I think they might need to get over that, but hey, what the hell do I know?

Hey, while the news is good (no malaria), being interesting is not so good. But maybe they'll find a new disease and name it after you. The Justinian virus.... Susan
I had a professor who caught something from riding in a train with cattle in Egypt. The folks in the national health system in England weren't really familiar with tropical diseases and took forever to figure out what it was. By then, he had gone into a short coma and his heart stopped, but he seems okay now.
Your assessment of my personality is right on and I'll admit to failing to curb my tendencies where you are involved, however…
My point was that this guy’s problem started out as a kind of annoying and easily cured sickness that took a while to get serious. While I'm certain that your health provider will make it difficult (though it couldn’t be worse than the NHS), I thought that this story might impress upon you the importance of finding someone who knows how to find their asshole in reference to tropical diseases. I'm sure you've already had the thought, so my little story really was unnecessary and I apologize for throwing my 2 cents where they weren't needed. Additionally, on review of my previous comment, I see that I should have expanded; adding a mission statement or perhaps a moral a la Aesop so as to give some purpose to what was basically just a scary and tasteless statement. Best of luck.
So, it's been like months. Are you dead yet, or are you still "interesting"?
You mean she can't be both "dead" and "interesting"?
Not without serious personality and legal issues on your part, pal.
